Success Morocco marked a new story by entering the quarterfinals World Cup 2022 make Arab countries proud.
Morocco qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup after beating Spain 3-0 on penalties. In the quarter-finals on Saturday (10/12), Achraf Hakimi and his friends will take on Portugal.
The new story was created after Morocco beat Spain. Morocco became the first Arab country to qualify for the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
Furthermore, Morocco is also the fourth team from the African continent to manage to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup after Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in the 2010 World Cup.
Morocco’s success is not only celebrated by the people of that country. Quoted by Reuters, people in the Middle East and North Africa were delighted. From Baghdad (Iraq) to Casablanca (Morocco), fans cheered as Morocco qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
People in Cairo, Beirut, Tunis, Amman and Ramallah also celebrated Morocco’s success in defeating Spain in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.
“This is the first time I feel like this. We are very proud,” said Fahd Belbachir, a Moroccan who celebrated his victory in the city center of Rabat.
Several leaders of Arab countries also expressed their congratulations on Morocco’s victory.
“Congratulations to the Lion of the Atlas, you made us happy. Wow Morocco, you did it again!” said Queen Rania of Jordan.
The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who watched Morocco-Spain live, gave a thumbs up and held up the Moroccan flag at the stadium.
Iraqi cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah also congratulated Morocco.
