Morocco: Libyan parties agree to form task forces responsible for appointments to positions of sovereignty – Xinhua

RABAT, Jan.23 (Xinhua) – Libyan delegations from the High Council of State and the House of Representatives agreed on Saturday in Bouznika, Morocco, on the formation and appointment of small work teams to take practical measures regarding candidatures for positions of sovereignty, said a statement sanctioning the new round of interlibyan dialogue, of which Xinhua had a copy.

The work teams will be responsible for overseeing the development of application forms and inviting applicants to submit their applications from January 26 until February 2, while ensuring the compliance of applications.

These positions of sovereignty concern in particular those of governor of the Central Bank, chairman of the administrative control authority, chairman of the audit office, and chairman of the anti-corruption body, in addition to the post of chairman. of the Libyan High Electoral Commission.

As for the posts of President of the Supreme Court and Attorney General, the press release noted that the measures stipulated in the laws in force will be applied.

The press release also emphasized the need to respect the criteria of competence and professionalism, and to ensure respect for a geographical balance capable of guaranteeing a fair distribution of all senior positions in state institutions. .

Appointments to these positions will end as soon as the preliminary stage is closed.

The two Libyan parties further insisted on the support of the Political Dialogue Forum sponsored by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to form an executive branch at the preliminary stage, stressing that they will fulfill their responsibilities even if the efforts of the political dialogue concerning the achievement of this deadline do not reach their objective.

This new cycle of dialogue is in line with the previous sessions held by the two parties in September, October and November 2020 in Bouznika and Tangier, which resulted in the conclusion of global agreements on the criteria and mechanisms of candidacy. in positions of sovereignty.
