Japanese loan to help improve educational climate in Morocco.
Rabat – On July 1, 2022, a 22 billion Japanese yen (approximately 1.6 billion Moroccan dirhams MAD) loan agreement was signed in Rabat between Morocco and Japan to fund the plan to improve the pedagogical climate in primary schools.
The agreement was signed by Minister of State for Economy, Finance and Budget Fouzi Lekjaa and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to Morocco Kuramitsu Hideaki, along with Ito Takashi, representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Morocco, and Education Minister Chakib Benmoussa. The aim of the loan agreement is to help Morocco improve the educational climate and reduce inequalities in science education in three ways: within schools, between schools and between families.
The Agreement is embedded in the strategies of the national education sector, including the Strategic Vision 2015-2030, Framework Law 51-17 and the Broad Lines of the New Development Model, in particular Line 2; “Towards Quality Public Schools”.
On this occasion, Mr. Kuramitsu emphasized that the education of the young generation is a “constitutive pillar of tomorrow’s society”. To this end, Japan and Morocco will increase their cooperation to improve the performance of the Moroccan education system in the years to come.
The JICA is an organization whose responsibilities include the implementation of official development assistance from the Japanese government. She has been active in Morocco for over 50 years. The Japanese organization has contributed to various cooperation programs since the 2000s, including yen loan projects, non-repayable financial cooperation and technical cooperation, which also involve Japanese volunteers.
Since 1976, more than 38 loan projects in various sectors (education, water, health, infrastructure, agriculture and marine fisheries) with a total budget of about 312 billion yen (nearly 24 billion MAD) have been funded to support sustainable development, promote economic competitiveness and Reduction of social and spatial inequalities.
