Morocco Devastated by Deadly Earthquake: Government Vows to Rebuild and Provide Relief

It is noteworthy that the provisional death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck vast areas south of Marrakesh, Morocco, on Friday night, rose to at least 2,122 dead as of Sunday afternoon.

The Ministry of the Interior said in a statement: “In a provisional toll, as of 4:00 p.m. (15:00 GMT), the number of deaths caused by the earthquake reached 2,122 people, and the number of injured was 2,421,” according to Agence France-Presse.

While the largest death toll was recorded in Al Haouz Province (1,351), south of Marrakesh, where the epicenter of the earthquake was identified.

She also added that the authorities “continue their efforts to rescue and evacuate the wounded, care for the injured victims, and mobilize all necessary capabilities to address the effects of this painful tragedy.”

It is noteworthy that the intensity of the earthquake reached 7 degrees on the Richter scale, according to what was reported by the National Center for Scientific and Technical Research (6.8 according to the American Seismological Service).
