Moroccan Women’s Historic Victory Propels Them Forward in Women’s World Cup

The “Atlas Lionesses” revived their hopes of qualifying for the final price of the Women’s World Cup, by achieving a historic victory over South Korea with a clean goal, on Sunday, with the signature of Ibtisam Al-Jaradi, in the second round of Group H competitions.

This victory is the first for Morocco and the Arabs in the history of the Women’s World Cups and the first three points won by its players in their first participation in the tournament in front of 13,000 fans in Adelaide. Morocco is the first Arab country to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This victory comes after a severe loss suffered by Moroccan women in the first round against Germany 0-6, to keep their hopes of crossing to the final price of the World Cup.

Not only did the “Atlas Lionesses” write history by winning, as the defender, Nahila Benzina, became the first player to wear a hijab in the history of the women’s competition.

Moroccan defender, Nahila Benzina, participated with her country’s national team against South Korea, on Tuesday, in Morocco’s second match in the FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand, to write a new history.

Consequently, the Moroccan women have three points from two matches in third place, behind second Colombia (3 points) and leaders Germany (3 points), while South Korea is at the bottom of the group without a score and has been eliminated from the tournament.

Morocco’s women sought pressure from the start, and they had what they wanted when Jeraidi scored the match’s only goal with a header into the far corner in the sixth minute of the match, after a pass from Hanan Ait El Hadj.

On the other hand, the goalkeeper, Khadija Al-Rumaishi, shone in front of several attempts by the Korean women throughout the goal.

The Moroccan women closed their defense in the second half, with the participation of the French coach, Reynald Pedros, for defender Sarah Casey instead of attacking Selma Amani, so that Morocco’s net remained difficult for the Korean women.

Al-Juraidi told reporters: “We are very happy that our efforts have borne fruit. This victory for Morocco and the Arabs is the fruit of our hard work,” according to Reuters.
