“Moroccan MP and Mayor Mohamed Moubdii Arrested for Financial Crimes”

Mohamed Moubdii, mayor of Fkih Ben Saleh and MP of the People’s Movement (MP), has been arrested on suspicion of financial crimes. The politician was arrested along with thirteen other suspects, including entrepreneurs who have been awarded assignments by his municipality.

The former minister of public services is charged with squandering government funds, misappropriating public money, participating in criminal organizations and other charges. He and seven other suspects were taken into custody at Oukacha Prison, while the other six were released on parole following the revocation of their passports.

The investigating judge decided to prosecute all detainees for alleged financial crimes committed in the context of the administration of Fkih Ben Saleh municipality. The date of their questioning by the examining magistrate will be set later.

Mohamed Moubdii, also chairman of the Justice and Legislation Committee in the first chamber of parliament, had announced his resignation on Wednesday, a day before his arrest, after learning that he would have to answer to court. For his party, Moubdii remains innocent until proven guilty.
