Among the ladies, the Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir won the race with 2h22min39, while his compatriot Viola Cheptoo took second place. Ethiopian Ababel Yeshaneh completes the podium of this race which covered the five districts of the Grande Pomme.
The New York International Marathon marked its return, Sunday, November 7, for its 50th edition after an absence imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The world’s largest marathon was due to take place in November 2020, before its cancellation in the wake of restriction measures decided by New York authorities to deal with the spread of the coronavirus.
Health crisis obliges, the organizers decided, this year, to limit to 33.000 the number of athletes participating in this sporting event.
Representing more than 100 countries, the runners will have to cover 42 kilometers, crossing the five boroughs of the American metropolis, namely Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Manhattan.
