The moringa powder plant that will benefit the Public Health System, especially pregnant women and the elderly, was inaugurated this Saturday in the municipality of Los Palacios in the Pinar del Río province.
Located in the El Pitirre Basic Production Unit, of the Research Center for Protein Plants and Bionatural Products, the plant materializes an idea of Fidel Castro. The aspiration is to process and obtain about 20 tons of moringa powder and in a second stage, through an international collaboration project, it is conceived to reach 100 tons in a year, which would lead to an expansion of agricultural areas, as well as the irrigation and mechanization, specified Iván Álvarez Torres, head of the plant.
Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister, meant that the launch of this industry is also a tribute to Fidel, the main promoter of the idea. He added that the work is just beginning, since here the planting areas required by the production must be guaranteed and it must be considered that it can also be an exportable item.
