Morian Jensen (32), his wife and their two children, aged eight and eleven, have until recently lived a completely normal and quiet life in Frederiksværk in Denmark.
Everything changed one fateful night in late December. Jensen is in hospital and his daughters wake up screaming at night.
Two weeks before New Year’s Eve, Jensen went to buy fireworks for the family to set off on the last day of the year, writes the Danish newspaper B.T.
Looked forward to
When the party they were going to was canceled just a few days before the big night, the father of the family wanted to lift his daughters’ spirits.
They had been looking forward to launching the rockets at the party.
As a plaster on the wound, Jensen thought of firing up a rocket battery and creating some colors in the sky on 27 December 2022.
The 11-year-old daughter was ready with a camera about 30 meters away and the youngest sat on mum’s lap and looked excitedly from the window.
Jensen went to the battery to light the fuse.

Unable to save himself
From that second, the lives of the Jensen family were changed forever.
– When the flame hits the fuse, the battery fires a shot straight into my left eye socket. Then it just keeps exploding around my ears from all sides, Jensen tells B.T.
He falls to the ground next to the battery. It continues to shoot around him.
Morian realizes that he needs help, and quickly.

He uses his strength to raise an arm so that his wife Michella Jensen can see him.
The wife runs out and is met by the eldest daughter who comes screaming. She asks her to take her little sister and the dog with her, and run to her grandparents’ house down the street.

Michella Jensen understands that the situation is serious, and crawls along the ground to reach her husband, who is still lying on the ground.
The battery still fires several shots.
She comes forward and tries to get the man to stand up and sees his face.

Michella Jensen tells B.T. that she called the ambulance and screamed at them. They wanted her to tell what Morian Jensen looked like.
– His whole face had exploded. The left eye hung down in the corner of the mouth. The face was an open flesh wound, Michella Jensen tells the newspaper.
The ambulance was there in a couple of minutes and the father of the family was rushed to the hospital where 17 trauma doctors and nurses were ready.

Morian Jensen is operated on for eight hours, and the operation is just one of several that he will have to go through in the coming time.
He himself remembers little from the coming days after the accident.
When he woke up, the father of the family realized that he was blind. It made him sad, but the thought of the children is the worst, Morian tells Jensen B.T.
– My children are devastated.
Since the accident, the children have started having nightmares. They often wake up screaming while tearing out their hair or peeing the bed.
– I am their father. I will receive them when they fall. I have promised them that I will always be there for them. They are not stupid and are aware that their father is blind. They get scared, because who will look after them now?, says Morian Jensen to the newspaper.
