Morgan Wallen banned from Country Music Awards – VG

2019: Morgan Wallen on the red carpet before the CMA Awards in Nashville two years ago.

The country star (28) has been nominated for an award during the gala in Nashville in November. But he is not allowed to come.

For the first time in the award gala’s 55-year history, a nominated artist is disqualified from participating in the festivities.

Morgan Wallen has lay down flat and apologized after the racism scandal in the New Year, where he was filmed by a neighbor while shouting “The N-word”. But that does not help the Country Music Association, which is behind the CMA Awards.

They believe that Wallen breaks with everything the Country Music Association stands for.

– Honoring him as a human being this year is not right. He is not allowed to enter our red carpet, go on stage or be hailed in any way, says head of the organization, Sarah Trahern, to Los Angeles Times.

Wallen has lined up in a remorse interview, checked in for rehab and explained that he did not mean anything bad by shouting the insult. He had then been removed from radio playlists and temporarily suspended from his own record label.

Wallen has not yet commented on the ban from the Country Music Awards. On Instagram he has a profile picture that shows him with the statuette he won at the same gala last year, for «Best newcomer».

– There is no excuse

The 28-year-old said in a video on social media in February that he was embarrassed and upset.

– I made unacceptable and inappropriate racism statements that I wish I could withdraw. There is no excuse for this type of language. I sincerely apologize and promise to sharpen up.

After the apology, he climbed to the top of the country charts in the US again with songs from the album “Dangerous: The Double Album”, and he is this year’s bestseller in his genre. That is why he is also nominated in the category «Album of the Year».

Part of the proceeds from Wallen’s record sales is earmarked for the Black Music Action Coalition.
