Morgan Freeman missed a planned press conference in the UK with his “Special Ops: Lioness” co-stars due to his deteriorating health. The 86-year-old actor decided to stay in the US as he developed a “fever” which doctors described as the result of a “contagious infection”.
Freeman was due to fly to the UK to promote his new spy thriller alongside his co-stars Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman. However, he was absent from a series of public appearances in London, including the screening of the film.
Saldana and Kidman also appeared together on “The One Show,” where host Alex Jones admitted she was very sorry Morgan wasn’t with them.
A representative for Freeman told DailyMail about the star’s absence: “Morgan has a fever and his doctor thinks he has a contagious infection, so he has canceled his trip. He’s fine now.”
Morgan Freeman has had serious health problems for at least 15 years. He suffers from fibromyalgia, a disease that causes muscle and joint pain and chronic fatigue. The actor’s illness is triggered after a road accident.
In 2008, he suffered a serious accident in Mississippi. Freeman was driving late at night when his car left the road, flipped several times and fell into a roadside ditch. The car is so crushed that its sheet metal had to be cut in order for paramedics to reach the actor and extricate him.
Freeman continues to be able to work after the accident, but the effects on his left arm are permanent – the nerves remain permanently damaged and the pain in his shoulder is constant. This is why Freeman has to wear a special compression glove to relieve his symptoms.
