The president of the Provincial Council of Jaén, Francisco Reyes, has participated this Saturday in the delivery of the XXIV ‘Ciudad de Cazorla’ Theater Prize to the Canarian dancer and choreographer Daniel Abreu, an act that has been held at the La Merced Theater and which has also had the presence of the Cazorleño mayor, Antonio José Rodríguez, and the territorial delegate of Culture and Historical Heritage of the Junta, Jesús Estrella.
This ceremony took place after the performance of the work ‘Nudity’, a contemporary dance show awarded with three 2018 Max Awards: best choreography, best dance show and best male dance performer, starring Abreu himself along with also recognized dancer Dácil González, 2019 National Dance Award in the mode of interpretation.
In this way, Daniel Abreu adds his name to the extensive list of artists who have received this award, a cast that includes personalities such as Adolfo Marsillach, Concha Velasco, Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Tricicle, Lola Herrera, Nuria Espert, Charo López, Rafael Álvarez ‘El Brujo’, Juan Echanove, Blanca Portillo, Julieta Serrano or José Sacristán, as detailed in a statement by the provincial entity.
The staging of ‘Nudity’ and the delivery of the XXIV ‘Ciudad de Cazorla’ Theater Award was one of the high points of this edition of the festival, which due to the pandemic has seen the number of works represented reduced, 13 in total, and also the usual capacity of the La Merced Theater.
The Provincial Council is one of the entities that has collaborated since the beginning of the Cazorla International Theater Festival, back in the 90s. Specifically, it does so through an agreement that it signs each year with the Cazorla City Council to contribute financially to the celebration. of various cultural events in this town, among which is this theatrical contest or the ‘BluesCazorla’ Festival, among others.
