The official death toll from the apartment disaster in the US state of Florida has risen to 28. Rescue workers have found four bodies in the past 24 hours. There are now 117 missing. The flat collapsed a week and a half ago in.
Last weekend, the part of the apartment complex near Miami that was still standing controlled inflation, to prevent parts from falling onto the emergency services.
According to local authorities, rescuers can now search more places that were previously too dangerous, such as bedrooms where most of the victims were sleeping when the building collapsed around 2 a.m.

Meanwhile, approaching Tropical Storm Elsa threatens to complicate the search for victims, but according to the latest weather forecast, the area in South Florida is spared. Thunderstorms are expected in the area.
The chance that there are still survivors under the rubble is rapidly diminishing. So far, people have only been rescued in the first hours after the disaster. “We realize that the chance of a miracle is getting smaller every day,” said one of the rescuers.
