More unemployed in Brussels, but decrease among young people | Inland

At the end of July, the Brussels region had 88,587 job seekers. That is 959 more than in July last year and also an increase of almost 650 compared to the month of June. The unemployment rate is 15.6 percent, which is slightly more than in recent months.

But things are going in the right direction for the youngsters. In July, the region had 7,512 job seekers under the age of 25. In the same period last year there were 8,140. Compared to June, there was also a decrease of 371 young job seekers. The unemployment rate among young people is still high at 20.3 percent, but it is falling sharply compared to the previous months (21.4 percent in June and 22.7 percent in May).

Actiris received 4,752 job offers last month, considerably more than in July last year, when the corona pandemic halted many activities. In June, Actiris even received 5,272 vacancies. But the employment service warns to interpret the increase with caution, “given the scale of the corona crisis and the impact on the labor market”.
