In response to the expected rise in energy prices, more than half or 57% of Latvians will try to reduce the cost of utility bills during the winter by introducing an austerity regime in their households, according to a Baltic population survey conducted by Kingspan.

In Latvia, the impact of the increase in utility prices with energy savings, wherever possible, will most often be addressed by women aged 60 to 74 living in Riga and Pieriga, the survey concluded.
The most pragmatic attitude towards the expected rise in energy prices is in Estonia, where 65% of respondents are ready to introduce austerity regime, while in Lithuania, 40% of respondents are ready to change their daily habits in order to save money. As in Latvia, women in Estonia have more often thought of austerity measures, but in Lithuania – men.
Almost every tenth in Lithuania and Latvia is ready to balance the fluctuations of utility payments by insulating their housing – in Latvia it would be relevant for 8% of respondents, among whom are mainly men aged 30 to 39, while 9% of respondents in Lithuania have similar opinions.
People living in Lithuania are the most optimistic about their chances of living with rising prices without changing their daily habits – they are mainly people whose monthly income is between 751 and 1,000 euros. In Latvia, 35% are ready not to change their daily habits, but in Estonia – only every third.
