More than half of the Latvian population would not be able to recognize a person with suicidal tendencies – in Latvia

More than half or 59% of Latvians aged 18 to 74 would not be able to recognize people with suicidal tendencies, according to a survey conducted by SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz).

In turn, the data of the World Health Organization show that Latvia has the ninth highest number of suicides in the world per 100,000 inhabitants.

In order to promote public awareness of the importance of mental health, LDz, together with the Crisis and Counseling Center “Skalbes” and other mental health experts, is organizing an expert discussion “Suicide risk – how to prevent it?” On Wednesday, October 7, at 11 am. Everyone will be able to watch the discussion live.
