More than half of people suffering from long-term Covid, or long Covid, has organ damage one year after the first symptoms. This is evident from new research in the United Kingdom. The researchers are particularly concerned about the impact that long-term Covid has on people’s overall quality of life.
The study was conducted on more than 500 patients. About 62 percent of them suffered from organ disorders six months after the initial diagnosis of the coronavirus. Another six months later, MRI scans showed that 59 percent of participants still had problems with one organ and 29 percent with multiple organs. There was, however, a reduction in symptoms in the second half of the year.
What is striking about the research is that many people who did not or hardly become ill from the corona virus also suffer serious consequences from the virus, ranging from extreme shortness of breath to reduced cognitive functions. Only 13 percent of the study participants had to be hospitalized because of the coronavirus.
