More than half a million people in NYC are still unemployed – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – The New York State Department of Labor revealed that more than half a million New Yorkers still remain unemployed as infections rise and closures return to parts of the city.

According to the figures revealed, 14% of the population of New York City are unemployed in the month of September, that is, of the approximately 8 million New Yorkers, 530,000 New Yorkers were unemployed.

However, the newly released data shows a slight improvement last month, when more than 600,000 New Yorkers were unemployed.

The highest point of joblessness in the city was in June when 20 percent of residents were unemployed during the height of the pandemic.

The numbers show that even though the number of unemployed continues to decline, the rate still remains well above average during the same season a year ago when the Big Apple reported an unemployment rate of 3.9%.
