Traffic around Utrecht is experiencing major delays on Friday evening rush hour due to work on the A2 between Oudenrijn junction and Everdingen. The A2 is closed in the direction of Den Bosch and that causes long traffic jams on alternative routes.
The A2 will be closed until Monday morning, August 19, and Rijkswaterstaat had already warned for traffic. On the A2, traffic was delayed for more than half an hour between Breukelen and the Leidsche Rijntunnel around 16:30. On the A27 from Utrecht to the south, motorists are stuck in traffic for more than an hour and a half, and the A12 from The Hague is also busy.
Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out major maintenance on the road surface on the A2 towards Den Bosch. The asphalt has reached the end of its lifespan and is therefore being replaced. The work will last until 30 September. During that period, the A2 will be completely closed to traffic on a number of Fridays and weekends, including this weekend. There will also be various night closures, when fewer lanes will be available.
