FREISTADT. A good 230 Covid-19 antibody tests have been carried out in the “Zum Goldenen Engel” pharmacy on Freistädter Hauptplatz since the beginning of December. So far, more than a quarter of all those tested had antibodies against the coronavirus.
The company Genspeed Biotech from Rainbach developed the rapid test. Many customers of the “Zum Goldenen Engel” pharmacy want to know whether they have developed antibodies after a confirmed corona infection and can therefore wait with the Covid-19 vaccination. Still others are curious as to whether they may have gone through a corona infection unnoticed.
Only a few drops of blood from the fingertip are required for the test; the test is fully evaluated after 15 minutes. The exact result will be sent to the test person during the day. “The antibody test works very well and there is great interest,” says doctor and pharmacist Peter Wienerroither from Freistadt.
Waiting time for test due to delivery bottlenecks
“Unfortunately it is currently the case that Genspeed is struggling with delivery problems due to the high demand. That’s why we had to postpone appointments in the pharmacy. We are currently working through the waiting list and will only give appointments if the material required for the antibody tests has arrived, ”said Wienerroither. So far, a good 230 people have taken a test in the pharmacy on Freistädter Hauptplatz.
“In 28 percent of those tested, Covid-19 antibodies could be detected, and of these again in the majority the spike antibodies, which protect against renewed infection,” explains Wienerroither. There are also people who have had a corona infection without any symptoms and have developed antibodies.
Check vaccination protection
The general practitioner wants to use the Genspeed Biotech tests to check vaccination protection shortly. “After the second Covid-19 vaccination, I would like to check whether and in what amount antibodies can be detected in volunteers in the retirement home,” plans Wienerroither.
