Today 1,350,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines against Covid-19 arrived that will be destined for adolescents of 16 and 17 years old. The United States donated this lot through the Covax mechanism and it was delivered in the city of La Paz.
The doses will be distributed on this day to the other regions. The Government assured that with these doses it will be possible to cover 70% of the Bolivian population and the entire vaccinable community.
The Minister of Health, Jeyson Auza, reported that with this batch the inoculation of the vaccinable population of the country is guaranteed and assured that these doses will be distributed immediately throughout the country. The authority highlighted that Chuquisaca will receive 58,146 vaccines, La Paz 248,082, Cochabamba 179,916, Oruro 45,522, Potosí 85,158, Santa Cruz 280,338, Tarija 47,874, Beni 49,392 and Pando 13,674.
“A vaccinated person, a vaccinated Bolivian or Bolivian, is one less patient in intensive care. If you go to an intensive care unit at this time, it will be possible to verify that almost all patients, if not all, are patients who were not vaccinated. We have set up massive vaccination centers together with subnational governments, universities and private centers, always with coordination, “Auza remarked.
Meanwhile, the charge d’affaires of the United States embassy in La Paz, CHarisse Phillips, stressed that this batch of vaccines will serve the population under 16 and 17 years of age which began its inoculation program against the coronavirus this week. The diplomat affirmed that her country will cooperate with Bolivia in stopping Covid-19.
The Government authorized vaccination for minors between the ages of 16 and 17. This week the process of inoculation to that sector began with some setbacks and it was only evident that in Santa Cruz and La Paz the plan was started. Today, the Pfizer vaccines will be distributed to the other regions.
For his part, the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Benjamín Blanco, assured that with these doses the vaccination of 70% of the entire Bolivian population is ensured, including those under 16 and 17 years of age. In addition, he said that the inoculation was ensured to the entire vaccinable community.
