A mother and her daughter were “dealers” of the telephones. “Only between them they sold 100 promotions”, said the commissioner of the town.
The sale of cell phones through the social network Facebook became a nightmare for more than one hundred residents of the town of Rancul.
The maneuver would be millionaire, since it would have spread to other locations because the “seller” proposed to his clients that they also offer the “promotions”, so the scam multiplied through those who had already been deceived.
On the night of last Friday, the case that affected residents of Rancul and the area became known through social networks. All posted on their profiles an alleged scam of a person who sold cell phones through Facebook.
Each publication got a large number of comments, with which it was known that there would be a huge number of victims, including people from nearby towns.
Through an apparently false profile, since it was later blocked, the seller offered cell phone promotions to which buyers accessed by depositing a password and then canceled the balance in installments.
After a few weeks of waiting for the phones to arrive, the victims began to be suspicious of the transactions and on Friday night they found that the Facebook profile that offered the promotions was blocked, as was the contact telephone number that they had received. given to resellers they had gotten in some localities.
Each of the buyers made deposits of between 4,000 and 8,000 pesos, so the scam would amount to a significant sum.
Complaints
Deputy Commissioner Raúl Revecco, head of the Rancul Departmental Police Station, confirmed the situation to FM Líder and explained that during yesterday’s session “they have been receiving complaints from buyers and people who have been selling telephones on sale that arose through of a Facebook page with a user that we do not know if he is real or fake. It would be a certain Abel Nova, who offered cell phones to be paid in installments through a Ualá account of a person with the surname Bermai “.
Revecco also revealed that “there have been people from the town who were damaged by the purchase and people who have been damaged, since, abusing the trust of these people, they took advantage of to put them as sellers in exchange for a promise of payment that is not accepted either. carried out, and these people sold the equipment. “
Victims
Only with regard to the town of Rancul, the deputy commissioner anticipated that “some victims have appeared and, as far as we know, some more are going to appear, since only between two of the vendors, for example, they had already sold 100 promotions And we know there are about 20 phone salesmen in town. They were all Nova salespeople. “
The police chief explained that “through the investigation that will be carried out through the Investigation Brigade and the Economic Crimes Prosecutor’s Office, it will be tried to establish if it is a real person or where the money went and trace it to be able to give with the authors of the scam and see if they can recover at least part of the money. “
The scammed ones would not only come from Rancul, but there would also be neighbors from Parera, Engineer Luiggi, Ambassador Martini, Mayor Alvear and General Pico. “As this is through Facebook, we assume that there must be many more victims,” said Revecco.
Millionaire
According to the calculations they made from the local police station, the scam would already amount to half a million pesos, although that figure is expected to be exceeded. Revecco reported that “according to the references of the sellers, two are mother and daughter, and only between them they sold 100 promotions of telephones with amounts that vary according to the equipment that each buyer chose. Due to the complaints we have been receiving, the deposits were 4500, 5500, 7000 “.
The uniformed officer explained that “the intention is for the victims to arrive at the nearest police station, either in Rancul or in the towns we have mentioned, and make the complaint so that the Prosecutor’s Office has as much data as possible so that they can carry out the investigation.” .
Rancul’s police chief also stressed that “at the moment all the people who were vendors were also scammed in their confidence, some even bought telephones. It is assumed that they did so in good faith, since they even presented themselves with the receipts of the deposits made. They were offered a commission, which they have not received yet, and they have also been scammed in their good faith, “he concluded.
