More than a hundred hotel guests sleep elsewhere after fire in Leeuwarden

More than 120 guests cannot return to the WTC Hotel in Leeuwarden tonight due to a large fire in the building earlier today. The guests had to be evacuated suddenly around 4.30 pm.

The fire was brought under control after several hours of extinguishing, but the evacuees can no longer sleep there. A spokesperson for the Frisian fire brigade says: against Omrop Fryslân that the damage is too great for that. The fire broke out this afternoon in a sauna on the fourth floor of the hotel, which is located on the west side of the city.

The fire turned out to be larger than originally thought and the smoke development made it difficult for emergency services to reach the fire. The fire brigade eventually scaled up to a major fire, after which several units were called in to help.

About 126 people were present in the building. They had to leave immediately and leave their belongings behind. There were no injuries.
