‘More than a hundred companies locked up after violating corona rules’ | NOW

Since the start of the corona crisis, 122 businesses have been closed for non-compliance with corona rules, writes RTL Z after a tour of the 25 security regions in the Netherlands.

This includes catering establishments, night shops and gyms that had to be locked because, for example, guests did not keep enough distance or because dancing took place indoors, RTL Z.

A closure is intended as a last resort; companies usually first receive several warnings from enforcers. After that, the SZW Inspectorate, the former Labor Inspectorate, can issue a fine. In the worst case, the safety region can close the company.

Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) says against RTL Z that he finds the number of closures “bad”. “As an employer, you just have to take good care of your people. As an employer, you have the task of providing a safe workplace. If you don’t, you are not in the process of being a good employer,” said the minister.

The SZW Inspectorate almost got this year twice as much reports received as in the same period last year. Of the 12,599 reports, 5,874 related to the corona virus. In many cases, it was about not keeping enough distance at the workplace, or about colleagues who come to work despite being ill. There have also been complaints about companies that did not allow working from home.
