In the new season, the Latvian National Theater has chosen to hold performances with relaxed safety rules, which means that only persons who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 or have contracted it, as well as that those working in the theater must have been vaccinated or have been diagnosed with Covid-19. As the director of the theater Jānis Vimba said in a conversation, more than 95% of the theater staff have already chosen to be vaccinated.

Director of the National Theater Jānis Vimba about the theater plans for the new seasonLatvian Radio

Vimba explained that in the “green” or low-risk event model, where events can be held with relaxed security rules, the theater will be able to accommodate more spectators and performances in full halls. Vimba emphasized that the theater felt that the audience was also longing for live performances, and expressed hope that the people of Latvia would be ready to be vaccinated.

According to Vimba, the National Theater has 200 staff members, more than 95% of whom have chosen to be vaccinated. The part of the team that has not yet been vaccinated will be discussed next week to find solutions. Vimba explained: “The solutions are different – everything is allowed by law. Of course, first of all, look at whether it is not possible to change the actor so that this “green event” can be created without being fired. The second is, of course, when it comes to technical staff, trying to find a solution to work elsewhere when it comes to servicing people. There are different solutions. Let’s try to find a common language. “

Commenting on how active ticket sales are at the theater at the moment, Vimba noted that he might want it to be more active, but he was not satisfied with the current demand, and noted that the performances of the August repertoire were already full enough for them to play.

CONTEXT:

Public events can be attended by people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, who have contracted it or who have had a Covid-19 test before the event, and the result is negative by presenting an appropriate digital certificate with a QR code.

Organizers organize two types of events:

  • Only for people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 or who have had it. This condition applies to every visitor to the event – also children! Thus, only children who have been vaccinated (from the age of 12) or have contracted Covid-19 can attend such an event with an appropriate digital certificate;
  • for a mixed audience with both vaccinated, Covid-19-infected and pre-event Covid-19 visitors, presenting an appropriate digital certificate. Children under the age of 12 do not need to be tested before the event and do not need to present a digital certificate. Children from the age of 12 must present a digital certificate confirming a negative Covid-19 test prior to the event or the fact that they have been vaccinated or have contracted a Covid-19 infection in the last 6 months.

In semi-safe events, bringing together both vaccinated / Covid-19 infected and tested audiences, the flow of visitors can be divided into different sectors with different security measures.
