This information was expressed by the head of the main department for livestock farming and fishing activities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Natalia Sonic, writing BELT.
“In Belarus, about 85% of the total number of bee colonies are in peasant (farm) families and the population and only about 15% – in agricultural groups. According to operational information from the agricultural and food committees of the regional executive committees, in the republic in 2024 there are more than 93 thousand bee colonies in all business groups,” she said.
Most bee colonies are bred in Gomel, Minsk and Mogilev regions.
Three farms in Belarus have the status of livestock breeding subject for breeding bees. We are talking about the Brest bee nursery – a breeding facility for breeding bees of the Carpathian breed, the State Radio-Ecological Reserve of Polesie – a breeding plant for breeding bees of the same Carpathian breed, and the breeding apiary of the beekeeping laboratory . Institute of Fruit Growing of the National Academy of Sciences in Belarus, where bees of the Krajina breed are bred.
In 2023, only 2.1825 thousand tons of honey were produced, including 534.8 tons, or 24.5%, from agricultural groups. Peasant families and farms produced 1.6478 thousand tons of honey.
