It is an unusual fact that recently happened in the United States. It is indeed Vishal Garg, patron of Better.com, an American mortgage company, which laid off nearly 9% of its staff, or more than 900 employees. The information was given by the media CNN, who clarified that the massive layoff took place during a meeting on the zoom app.
A drop in performance as well as a lack of efficiency
“If you are on this call, you are part of the group of the unfortunate who are thanked” he said before pointing out to the employees who were present at this meeting that: “Your work here has ended with immediate effect”. According to the media that gave the information, the CEO justified his act by a decline in performance and a lack of efficiency. Note that this is not the first time that the boss of Better.com hit the headlines for controversial behavior with its employees. Always according to CNN, Vishal Garg had been talked about, concerning a message sent by email to his employees, which contained terms “Offensive”. As a reminder, this dismissal comes in a context where the health crisis due to covid-19 had caused a significant number of resignations in companies.
This number is estimated at 4.3%, during the month of August 2021. However, this period when there were enough resignations does not only concern employees but also business leaders. Indeed, many are the latter who have chosen to change activity or to withdraw from their business, following moments of stress caused by two years of pandemic.
