Of the total of 85,770 requests received since March 13, the SEF has already issued 74,725 documents with reference to payment related to residence permits.
In just one week, the number of residence requests from citizens of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) who are in Portugal rose from 27 thousand to more than 85 thousand.
According to information released by the Ministry of Internal Administration of Portugal, the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) received, since last March 13 – a date from which it became possible, for those citizens, to obtain a residence permit automatically, via the internet and without the need to go to the SEF branches – and until 7 pm this Tuesday, “85,770 requests for the attribution of Residence Authorization Certificates”.
In addition to those applicants who already reside in Portugal, the Ministry’s information recalls that citizens holding new CPLP consular visas issued after October 31, 2022 can also register on the platform created to apply for automatic residence.
Of the total of 85,770 requests received in this modality, since March 13, SEF has already issued 74,725 documents with reference to payment related to residence permits.
More than four thousand previous consultations
As recalled, last week, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ana Catarina Mendes, in the Assembly of the Republic, the objective of this measure is to speed up the regularization of the approximately 150 thousand immigrants from Portuguese-speaking countries in Portugal who have pending cases at the SEF.
However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs guarantees that the security levels remain “unchanged” and that, in this context, “4,369 security consultations were carried out prior to the issuance of residence permits due to alerts arising in the initial analysis”.
The Portuguese government emphasizes that this procedure is “agile and efficient”, allowing citizens of CPLP countries access to rights in areas such as education, health, security, professional activity, professional training and justice and encourages immigrants from Portuguese-speaking countries to residing in Portugal to join this opportunity to regularize their situation.
