More than 80% of Colombians only have one vaccine against covid-19

The most recent vaccination plan in Colombia reveals that 83.3% of Colombians still only have one dose of the different vaccines against the coronavirus, that is, 42,452,124 of the population have gone to the vaccination points and applied a first or single dose. As far as the third dose is concerned, a total of 12,589,165 people have it.

“We need the population over 12 years of age to get their booster dose”was the call of the director of Promotion and Prevention, Gersón Bermont.

In what has to do with booster vaccination, (only available for people over 50 years old) about 500,000 people have it. Regarding this, Bermont said that the vaccines from the Moderna and Pfizer pharmaceutical companies are the only ones that are being used for the second booster.

The Ministry of Health, headed by Fernando Ruíz, affirmed that this week 1,008,000 Janssen vaccines arrived, which is a single dose or a single application to the country, as part of the vaccines promised for donation by the US government.

“This first batch is 1,008,000 Janssen vaccines (single application), from the United States Government, continuing to support national efforts in the vaccination process against covid-19 for the migrant population that is in Colombia or transits through the country,” said Germán Escobar, Vice Minister of Public Health and Provision of Services.

It should be noted that in terms of doses against covid-19, Colombia expects to receive 2,016,000 new vaccines that the Joe Biden government promised in its meeting with the Colombian president, Iván Duque.

Previously, in 2021, Colombia had received donations from the Joe Biden administration, which are represented 3.5 million doses from the Moderna laboratory and 2.5 million from the Janssen laboratory and other brands.

In total, Colombia has received 99,166,854 doses, from the different brands and laboratories and through the different mechanisms, in which 2.1 million doses purchased by the private sector are includedaccording to government accounts within the framework of the National Vaccination Plan.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, in Bogotá (being the city with the highest number of doses applied) 15,696,896 vaccines have been givenAntioquia with 12,300,161 and Valle del Cauca with 7,205,103.

Cartagena with (11,960,691), Cundinamarca with (5,274,980), Santander with (3,855,228), Barranquilla with (2,925,921), Córdoba with (2,614,671), Norte de Santander with (2,543,927), Nariño with (2,375,208), Boyacá with (2,368,610), Tolima with (2,452,962), Atlántico with (2,025,860), Cesar with (1,826,475), Risaralda with (1,775,959), Huila with (1,751,412), Meta with (1,556,740), Cauca with (1,504,159), Sucre with (1,499,153) La Guajira with (1,266,981), Magdalena with (1,230,145), and Quindío with ( 1,056,669), among other areas of the national territory.

In total, according to statistics from the National Government, within the National Vaccination Plan against the coronavirus, until February 2022, EPS and regional health entities have applied 84,821,665 of vaccines and in this last week of May, 50,889 second doses were also applied, as well as another 10,075 single doses, which correspond to the Janssen vaccine. It should be noted that in Colombia it is highlighted that only from May 25 to 31, 334,951 were applied in the country.
