More than 7,500 flights have been canceled worldwide during the Christmas holidays

More than 7,500 flights have been canceled and several thousand more delayed worldwide during the Christmas holidays, according to data from the air traffic monitoring site Flightaware.com.

The site reported that 2250 flights worldwide were canceled on Sunday.

Flightaware.com data shows that at least 735 more flights were canceled worldwide on Monday, but at least 160 pre-scheduled flights will not take place on Tuesday.

Nearly 2,900 flights were canceled worldwide on Saturday, including more than 970 flights to or from US airports. More than 8,000 flights were delayed.

On Friday, around 2,400 flights were canceled worldwide and 11,000 flights were delayed.

During the US Christmas holidays, traffic chaos is exacerbated by bad weather in the west of the country, while airlines around the world are affected by the rapid spread of the Covid-19 omicron.

Many pilots, flight attendants and other staff are unable to come to work due to illness or quarantine, so large airlines such as Lufthansa, Delta, United Airlines, JetBlue and Alaska Airlines have problems finding staff during one of the busiest travel times. and many others.

Airlines have acknowledged that the rapid spread of the omicron has depleted staff resources and, to the best of their ability, they are unable to complete all scheduled flights.

A significant part of the canceled flights are related to China, where, for example, China Eastern canceled more than 1,000 flights on Friday and Saturday, or more than a fifth of all scheduled flights. Air China has also canceled about 20% of scheduled flights.
