The Fred Olsen Santa Cruz Extreme faces its VII Edition on October 9, after last year’s suspension due to the pandemic, and it does so after having completed the 700 places offered, in a restricted offer due to prevention measures against Covid- 19, as reported in the presentation that took place today in the Sala García Sanabria of the Santa Cruz City Council.
The test is part of the Mountain Racing Cup of the Canarian Federation, being one of the six that make up the calendar and the penultimate one that is held, for which many of the most outstanding runners of the Archipelago participate. The event, which is promoted by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council through the Sustainable Santa Cruz Foundation and the Sports Department, has made an effort to adapt to the prevention measures established by its own Covid protocol, and its regulations.
The 700 runners participating in the event are divided into three distances, the 33 kilometer one being the one with the most participation, with 300 registered. The distances of 60 kilometers and the one of 19 km, has 200 registered each. In total, there will be about 600 men and 100 women who will be part of the event.
The Fred Olsen Santa Cruz Extreme wants to show solidarity with the island of La Palma, which is going through a serious crisis caused by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja Volcano, which has also led to the suspension of the Transvulcania, one of the most emblematic mountain races in the world. .
