The 735 GMC Hummer EV electric SUVs will have to step in to repair issues with the battery seal manufactured by Magna.
US automaker GMC will have to recall 735 GMC Hummer EV vehicles to prevent moisture from entering the battery pack, according to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA. Together with the Hummer, 89 BrightDrop EV600 delivery vehicles using the same battery design will enter service.
General Motors has revealed that the recall affects vehicles produced between November 2021 and September 2022, while BrightDrop is recalling vehicles produced between March and June 2022.
So far, GM is aware of three cases where moisture entering the battery pack has caused problems. In two cases the cars could no longer be started, in the third case the car stopped during the journey.
GM says it temporarily stopped shipping vehicles manufactured during that time period that had not yet reached customers.
It is not yet known how GM will solve this problem: maybe the battery pack will be fixed, maybe the battery will be completely replaced.
