Hermosillo, Sonora. Every January, Álamos, Sonora becomes a blank canvas where the notes of the opera, the chords of the mariachi and the expressions of the native cultures converge, for the celebration that transforms this magical town into the cultural epicenter of northwest Mexico: the Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival (FAOT).
Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño presented the 2025 edition, highlighting the participation of 752 artists who, from January 24 to February 1, will fill every corner of the town with life with their talent. “This festival is more than a cultural event, it is a tribute to our identity and a platform that brings the essence of Sonora to the world,” said Durazo.
In this edition, renowned artists such as Ana Torroja, Monsieur Periné and Edith Márquez will share the billboard with regional exponents, showing that Sonoran talent has deep roots and immense wings.
With an investment of 35 million pesos and a firm commitment to maintaining free access, FAOT 2025 not only aspires to exceed the 71 thousand visitors of its previous edition, but to reach 100 thousand people, reaffirming that art has no barriers no borders.
“In Álamos, art is breathed and lived. This festival is a festival of the people, for the people,” said Durazo. In a world that sometimes seems rushed and fragmented, FAOT reminds us that, in the chords of a guitar or the vibrato of a voice, we can find unity, memory and hope.
The Plaza de Armas, the Callejón del Templo and the Museo Costumbrista de Sonora will be just some of the forums where stories will be told with music and poetry. There will be no shortage of school workshops or street performances, which turn the avenues of Álamos into an open-air stage where families find art on every corner.
The Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival was born to honor the tenor and doctor originally from Álamos who took his voice to international stages. Four decades later, this event not only perpetuates his legacy, but also symbolizes the efforts of a community that understands that art and culture are pillars to build a better society.
