More than 60 people killed in snow removal in Japan

Minister of State Lands, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Kazuyoshi Aqaba said more than 60 people in the north of the country have died while clearing snow from their rooftops. Never before have so many people died. In this regard, the government ordered to allocate additional funds to eliminate the consequences of a natural phenomenon.

In the north of the main Japanese island of Honshu and on the northern island of Hokkaido, heavy snowfalls have not stopped since December 2020. In particular, they periodically lead to a stop of transport links. Most of those killed are elderly people.
