More than 60 museums and galleries across the country will participate today, May 14, in this year’s edition of the European Night of Museums and Galleries.

In Sofia, in the sculpture park of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the “Mission” gallery of the State Cultural Institute, the following will be held:
-Paper Art Biennale Sofia – Sculpture Park, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – May 14, 2011, 5:30 p.m.
– “Directions” – sculpture exhibition by Ognyan Chitakov – “The Mission” gallery, May 14, 2011, 7:00 p.m.
-“TEMPOGRAPHY” – screening of a video art project by Antoni Bonwart and Magnus Aronson – May 14, 2011, 9:00 p.m.
The National History Museum /NIM/ is also involved in the initiative. From 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on May 15, 2011, visitors will be able to view the permanent exposition of the NIM and the exhibition “Thrace and the Ancient World – Vasil Bozhkov Collection” – previously unseen masterpieces of ancient art.
For the first time, the recently donated stage costumes, photos and awards of the world-famous opera prima Gena Dimitrova will also be on display.
Publications of the museum – books, catalogs, albums and others, will be offered at preferential prices.
From 19:00 there will be a concert of the chamber ensemble of AB Artproekt – masterpieces from Bulgarian and world music classics, performed by Bistra Dilyanoff – piano, Dimitar Bakrjiev – flute and Benita Primo – dances.
From 21.00 there will be a concert-performance “Bulgarian music”, performed by “RED AND BLACK – BG DUET”, Milcho Sokolov and Kiril Veselinov
A highlight in the program of the National Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the art of carving on an egg” by the American artist from the state of Utah, Brian Batey.
The exhibition will open at 4 pm in the presence of His Excellency the US Ambassador to our country – James Warlick.
For the fourth year in a row, “Vladislav Varnenchik” Park-Museum will participate in the Night of Museums by opening its doors for free visits from 18:00 to 24:00.
Visitors will be able to see previously unseen exhibits, some of which have recently arrived in his collections.
From 6 to 8 p.m., those who wish will have the opportunity to put on real armor, check how much a knight’s sword weighs, as well as take a photo with a knight’s helmet as a souvenir.
The underground mining museum in the town of Pernik will offer its visitors an attraction program “Mysteries in the Old Mines”.
The museum will be open from 18.00 to 24.00. The attraction program will start at 19.00.
For the sixth time, the Regional History Museum – Stara Zagora is participating in the initiative. The extremely rich program begins at 5:30 p.m. with the opening of the photo exhibition “Aton – Touching Spirituality” by Slavcho Slavov, located in the lobby of the Stara Zagora Opera House, the municipality of Stara Zagora reports. At 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd exhibition level in Regional Historical Museum will be given a start to the game “Guess the Riddle and then pass”. Guessing each riddle takes the curious participants to the next object of the museum, and for those of them who have collected all the gallons of riddles – there will be a prize waiting for them at the last object.
For avid mystery fans is the “Find the treasure with a flashlight” game, which starts at 7:00 p.m. on Ancient Street in front of the Opera House and Ancient Forum Complex at the West Gate.
At 10:30 p.m., there is a screening of Alejandro Amenabar’s feature film “Agora” in the museum.
The Vidin Museum and the “Baba Vida” fortress also open their doors. The Regional History Museum – Vidin will extend the opening hours of the “Baba Vida” fortress until 10:00 p.m. and of the “Konaka” museum until 01:00 a.m. Admission is free.
In the “Baba Vida” fortress, from 4:00 p.m., an exhibition of Watercolors “The City” by author Alexander Proinov will be exhibited.
“Museum sites in Sliven will open their doors for free visits to citizens”, announced to journalists the director of RIM – Sliven Georgi Kyupchukov. Invitations have been sent to schools to organize visits by students. “Museum specialists will be available to all citizens who show interest in museum work, the problems of cultural and historical heritage until 7 p.m.,” Kyupchukov assured. On the “Night of the Museums”, the Regional Museum organizes a number of events. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. a stand for souvenirs and museum publications will be open in front of the museum building. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the house-museum of the Sliven lifestyle, the citizens of the city will be able to see performances of a children’s folklore dance group at the “Hristo Botev” elementary school with Stanka Ivanova as the leader. The spring rite “Kukeri” performed by a group at the community center “Dr. Petar Beron” – Topolchane village will be reproduced. From 19:00 to 20:00 in the halls of the Regional History Museum, children from the “Misho Todorov” OSHI will take part with their performances, and in front of the museum building, the children’s choir “Druzhna pesen” with conductor Yana Boneva will be included in the festive program. From 20 to 21.45 there is a program of the Children’s Complex – Sliven.
“Mountain of the Disobedient” is the film by specialists from the Regional History Museum, which will be shown in the “Hadji Dimitar” house-museum from 5 to 7 p.m.
The National Museum of Military History participates in the Night of the Museums under the title “Museum and Memory”. The program starts at 6 pm with “knight duels”. The Medieval Fencing School “MOTUS” will demonstrate swordsmanship skills. Weapons and clothing are replicas of preserved historical sources from the XIII-XVI centuries. The fencing technique was created on the basis of fencing treatises from the period 1275 – 1570.
From 19.00 is the concert of the Representative Ensemble of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria. Popular songs and military marches will be performed by the “Army Song” quartet. Emilia Valenti, Stanislava Dimitrova, Iliyan Nedev and others will take part in the concert.
