U.S. Vice President Pence has canceled a number of campaign meetings in Florida and Alabama over the next week. The reason is the new wave of corona infections in this and other states.
Pence will visit the states in question, but not for campaign purposes, according to the White House. Instead, he will be informed about the local health situation and how to deal with the corona crisis.
Florida and Alabama, but also Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, for example, are experiencing a sharp increase in the number of corona infections. In a number of states it has been decided to tighten the measures again, after earlier easing.
Reuters news agency reported yesterday that the number of identified infections across the US has risen to more than 2.5 million. The increase in the last 24 hours was 45,000 infections, the highest number to date.
