more than 5,500 cancer screenings were not carried out because of the confinement

The Regional Coordination Center of cancer screening made his calculations: because of confinement, more than 5,500 cancer screenings were not carried out in Dordogne, compared to previous years, for breast cancer and colorectal cancer. For the breast, for example, around 1,800 Périgourdines perform a mammogram each month, or half of women over 50 who receive an invitation to screening. But with the closure of radiology practices except for emergencies, only thirty women underwent this screening in April for breast cancer.

Radiological examinations resumed in May and June (700 and then 1,400 mammograms performed), but there is a delay to catch up. About 22,000 Périgourdines took this test each year.

Also omissions for colon cancer screening

The follow-up is also important for the screening of colon cancer: barely 200 Périgourdins (men and women) were screened for colorectal cancer in April, compared to 1,600 in an ordinary month. In May, some 700 people withdrew their screening kit from their attending physician, before a return to the rate of 1,600 screenings in June. The risk is the late detection of an evolving cancer; this screening is offered each year to approximately 65,000 Périgourdins aged 50 to 74, but only 30% will collect the kit from their attending physician.
