More than 500 students march for 10 years of Ayotzinapa

Mexico City, A contingent of more than 500 students advanced along Chapultepec Avenue at Enrique Martínez Street towards the Ángel de la Independencia to join the mobilization for the tenth anniversary of the disappearance of the 43 students from the Normal Rural school, Raúl Isidro Burgos from Ayotzinapa, Guerrero.

Most of the students who belong to UNAM, during the beginning of the tour, shouted some slogans, among them, “they took them alive, we want them alive,” in addition to performing a roll call of the absent normal students accompanied by the word “ justice”.

Several young people carried banners in their hands that read, “dismantle the truth,” “extradition of Tomás Zerón to Mexico,” “Stop the genocide of the people of Palestine,” the UNAM shouts “justice,” among others.

Some young people with their faces covered painted on walls and launched rockets.

Members of the Black Block joined the contingent of UNAM students, who threw firecrackers at businesses, destroying glass doors and windows; They also hit Metrobus stations.

In parallel, at the Angel of Independence, students, members of popular and union organizations waited for the start of the mobilization.

Minutes before 4:20 p.m., the truck carrying the fathers and mothers of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa normal students arrived in the area.

The families were welcomed by protesters shouting: “You are not alone.”

On Paseo de la Reforma, several establishments were protected with metal and wooden fences.

Before the march began, young people with their faces covered damaged businesses located on Paseo de la Reforma, near the Angel of Independence, including restaurants, cafes and convenience stores, throwing firecrackers and setting fires.

On the other hand, the bishop emeritus of Saltillo, Raúl Vera, said that it is a “shame for the Mexican state that it is covering up the army’s abnormalities in the case of the disappearance of the students. That is a very negative thing; On the other hand, the example that all the fathers and mothers of the missing are giving is wonderful. “President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has the task of delivering justice.”

Apart from damaging facades, businesses, monuments, among other places, the hooded men set fire to several bank branches and threw firecrackers at other establishments and hotels located on Paseo de la Reforma.

On the corner of Cinco de Mayo and Isabel la Católica, the hooded men managed to tear down the curtains of an Italian clothing store where they stole shirts, jackets, ties, among other items that they began to distribute among the protesters. Once they took out the store they set it on fire.
