The government announced on Tuesday that some 400,000 adult doses and 11,857 pediatric doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will expire by the end of November.
“Both the Social Fund of Costa Rica and the Ministry of Health have tried to prevent the loss of vaccines due to expiration through a series of activities such as the extension of office hours, house-to-house visits, visits to schools, communication, and public-private alliances”, indicated the Government through a press release, in which it did not specify the investment that the country has made for the acquisition of these drugs.

According to CCSS statistics, for the week of November 14, 62,316 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were applied, while for November 7, the figure was just 44,416 doses, and a week earlier, for October 30, at 50,652. .
In total, a total of 12,426,369 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been placed in the country, of which 4,5621,045 correspond to the first doses, 4,261,460. second, 2,717,034 third and 886,828 fourth.
The CCSS authorities have also urged the population who wish to be vaccinated to attend licensed vaccination clinics across the country and can get their shot against COVID-19.
“The Government of the Republic regrets this great loss of resources. We will make efforts to avoid future losses within the framework of the quantities purchased and the clauses of the confidential contracts for the purchase of vaccines signed during the Alvarado Quesada administration,” they added.
