More than 30,000 people in Mexico have already given up cigarettes; this is the artwork that celebrates it

To celebrate that more than 30,000 people have left the traditional cigarette behind and chosen to modify their tobacco use, the photographer Alfredo Blásquez Y Philip Morris México (PMM) inaugurate a piece of art. The work consists of a lighter muralIt’s intended to raise awareness of their short lifespan and the ease with which they are disposed of.

The facility was created by more than 10 thousand lighters and invites you to choose change and give way to alternatives such as IQOS the electronic device that heat the tobacco Instead of burning it, and unlike vapers, it uses real tobacco for a cigar-like experience, but with much less exposure to the toxins in the smoke.

“The goal of Philip Morris México is to achieve a smoke-free future and reduce the number of traditional cigar smokers, this is the inspiration behind the work. The installation seeks to sensitize the population about our lifestyle, since once a person leaves this habit behind, they also stop using lighters and therefore the waste of plastic in nature is reduced ”, said Alfredo Blásquez.

Tribute to those who chose change

30,000 people is a very important starting number, and one that anticipates a future without cigarettes and without smoke, which also implies a future without lighters, being one of the engines that motivated Alfredo Blásquez to make this piece.

“The play celebrates the decision of those people who chose change and abandoned cigarettes. Therefore, the lighter will disappear from your lifestyle, which is an important step for your own well-being and for the conservation of the environment. The installation encourages us to rethink our consumption habits and in caring for nature, ”said Blásquez.

Alfredo has been related to issues of sustainability and education, mainly through different publications and exhibitions in Mexico and the United States. His artistic work focuses on raising awareness about the excessive use of plastic products, which pollute the oceans with 12 million tons of garbage a year, according to Greenpeace.

It is worth mentioning that the work was carried out in collaboration with Foundation for Educational Assistance (FAE), an organization that supports children in extreme poverty. Parents who are dedicated to garbage collection were the ones who gathered the more than 10,000 pieces, which were dismantled and separated from their non-recyclable materials. For each one they received financial support aimed at improving their children’s education.

Each smoker has in his hands the opportunity to choose a change and leave this habit forever, “added the Mexican photographer during the inauguration.

The facility will be located on the outskirts of Museo Soumaya Y Plaza Carso (CDMX) from today. Given the contingency and importance of staying at home to take care of all of us, we invite you to visit it on the social networks of @iqos_mx
