More than 300 Rohingya who are in danger at sea have arrived in Indonesia Madhyamam

Jakarta: Two boats with more than 300 Rohingya refugees arrived in Indonesia. The boat made landfall in Indonesia’s northern province of Aceh Bazar on Sunday morning after drifting precariously at sea for weeks without food or water.

They risked their lives and traveled by boat from a refugee camp in Bangladesh in search of a better life. Each of them paid 363 dollars (about Rs. 30,000) to the boat owner.

In 2017, 750,000 Rohingya Muslims fled their homeland following the genocide by the Myanmar army. Most were in Bangladesh. Even the 600,000 who remain in Myanmar are denied citizenship and freedom of movement by the government.

Living a hellish life in Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh and Myanmar, they often make dangerous sea journeys to Malaysia and Indonesia in search of a better life. This year alone, more than 350 people have drowned or gone missing at sea during this journey.
