A World Cup final to then celebrate the new year… Some firecrackers and fireworks should be on display in the next few days in the Bas-Rhin. Only to avoid the tragedies that occur every year, the Bas-Rhin prefecture has banned, as in previous years, until the beginning of January, the purchase, sale, transport and use “of all fires fireworks and pyrotechnic articles”.
In this sense, more than 300 kilos of firecrackers and unauthorized fireworks, sold via Snapchat, were seized by the police south of Strasbourg, the Bas-Rhin departmental directorate of public security said on Friday.
Twenty boxes
After an initial arrest in early December of a vehicle containing several firecrackers and pyrotechnic mortars, resold via a Snapchat account, departmental security located a fireworks storage location on this account and searched an apartment in the municipality on Monday of Fegersheim, about ten kilometers south of Strasbourg, details the DDSP in a press release.
About twenty boxes containing more than 300 kg of various fireworks were discovered on the spot. Arrested, the owner of the venue, 30, was taken to court in June 2023. All seized fireworks were destroyed.
