The professor of Archeology at the University of Cádiz (UCA), Darío Bernal Casasola, has signed an agreement with the territorial delegation of Culture and Historical Heritage of the Junta de Andalucía, for the deposit of documentation in the library of the Archaeological Ensemble of Baelo Claudia in Bolonia, Tarifa.

As indicated by the Board in a note, this has been staged in an act in which the territorial delegate, Mercedes Colombo, and the professor have signed this agreement, by which More than 300 books from Bernal’s personal collection will go to the Library of the Archaeological Ensemble of Baelo Claudia.

Colombo thanked Darío Bernal for this donation, highlighting “the importance not only of this assignment, but also of these research works that are being carried out in the Archaeological Ensemble of Baelo Claudia, which have contributed to highlighting what was already buried. learn more about this wonderful enclave of the province “. In addition, the delegate has expressed her desire to “continue to count on the archaeologist’s knowledge and his close collaboration with Culture.”

The delegate has insisted on “encouraging citizens to donate the bibliographic funds they have in their homes and thus contribute to making the knowledge of the history of the Culture of the province much more accessible.”

Darío Bernal, for his part, has been “very satisfied” with this agreement, explaining that he has been motivated by the desire to preserve and disseminate part of his personal collection of books related to archeology. The professor has estimated that “the most convenient thing is to deposit these funds in the Library of the Archaeological Ensemble of Baelo Claudia”.

The professor has stated that “it is a pleasure to make this donation of almost 300 books specialized in classical archeology, especially in Roman archeology, topography and urban planning, because it is perhaps the only library in the entire province that has a very specific specialization in that thematic “. “These are old books, very difficult to obtain and therefore it is the best place where they can be consulted by all who want to do it,” he explained.

Bernal has reiterated that “it is very important that citizens cede their bibliographic funds, especially those prior to 2000, since most of them have been digitized since then, which guarantees their conservation”. In this sense, he added that “in this way accessibility to knowledge would be allowed to all those interested in historical heritage, archeology and culture in general”.

“At the University of Cádiz, where I work, for more than 20 years we have had many institutional ties with the Ministry of Culture, through its territorial delegation in Cádiz and especially with Baelo Claudia, so this is one more link of this chain of collaboration between the Junta de Andalucía and the UCA, in search of the dissemination of the cultural heritage of Cádiz “, he concluded.
