More than 30 times more home batteries have been installed this year than during the whole of last year. This is evident from figures from grid operator Fluvius and the Flemish Energy and Climate Agency (VEKA) requested by VRT NWS. The high electricity price makes the installation of such a battery more interesting. The abolition of the reverse counter has also convinced many owners of solar panels.
Those who do not (completely) use the electricity from their solar panels usually place it on the electricity grid, but since the abolition of the reversing counter, that is no longer so interesting. With a home battery you can also store that power for later use.
A home battery costs you -installation and VAT included- at least 5,000 euros. In order to encourage that investment, the Flemish government provides a premium for its purchase with European support. And with success, because more than 11,000 home batteries have already been installed this year. These are figures from early November.
By comparison, 337 home batteries were installed in all of 2020. This year there are already more than 30 times more. A premium is also applied for for a large part of these home batteries. This concerns about 7,000 requested premiums. That is also a big increase.
This sharp increase is partly due to the high electricity price. Until recently, a home battery was a less interesting investment for many solar panel owners, but due to rising prices, many people try to avoid consuming a lot of electricity from the grid.
