More than 30 people burnt to death in Myanmar’s Rich State

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Human rights groups report more than 30 people dead and their bodies burned in the conflict-torn state of Kayah Myanmar.

To quote channelnewsasia.with, Saturday (25/12), the Karenni human rights group found the burnt bodies of displaced people, including the elderly, women, and children. They were killed by Myanmar’s governing military, near the village of Mo So in Hpruso Town.

“We strongly condemn the inhumane and brutal killings that violate human rights,” the group said in a post on Facebook.

The Karenni National Defense Forces, one of several largest civilian militias opposed to the junta leading the February 1, 2021 coup, said the dead were not their members but civilians seeking refuge from the conflict.

“We were very surprised to see all the bodies of different sizes, including children, women and the elderly,” said a commander from the group.

A resident who asked not to be named said he was aware of the fire on Friday (24/12) night. However, could not go to the scene because there was a shooting.

“I went to see this morning. I saw corpses that had been cremated, children’s clothes, and women scattered,” he said.

Myanmar has been in turmoil since the military toppled the elected government of Nobel prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi nearly 11 months ago.

Most of the civilians were angry with the coup and the crackdown. Many local resistance forces have sprung up throughout Myanmar.
