The epidemic data released by the French Ministry of Health that night showed that France had 25,207 new confirmed cases on the 26th, with a total of 37,120,200 confirmed cases, 86,147 deaths, and 565 new deaths. The number of French COVID-19 hospitalized patients is now 25,130, and the number of critically ill patients is now 3445.
According to the French official deployment, many cities in the Alpes-Maritimes province and the surrounding areas of Dunkirk in the north officially implemented weekend “cities closure” on the 26th. This is the first weekend “closure of the city”, starting at 6 pm on February 26 (Friday) and lasting until 6 am on March 1 (Monday). The “closure” period of the relevant areas is the same and will last at least two weekends.
During the “closed city” period on weekends, people in relevant areas must carry travel certificates to go out. Going out will be limited to one hour and cannot leave the radius of the residence within 5 kilometers; only a few commercial places such as supermarkets, pharmacies, and gas stations remain Open.
The cities in the Alpes-Maritimes province that were affected by the weekend’s “lockdown” include the capital of Nice, the famous city of Cannes, Antibes, and the border city of Menton between France and Italy. The areas where the “city closure” was implemented on weekends were all areas with severe epidemics. Alpes-Maritimes has 577 new crown infections per 100,000 inhabitants, nearly three times the French average; Nice has 751 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. Dunkirk has 901 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants.
Although the incidence of new crowns in the Paris region is lower than that in Nice and Dunkirk, other epidemic indicators are not optimistic. French Prime Minister Castel said on the 26th that he did not support the official Paris plan to “close the city” for three weeks. French officials have announced increased surveillance of 20 provinces with severe new crown epidemics, including 8 provinces in the Paris region.
