The Ministry of Health (Minsa) plans to vaccinate 20,485 infants and children under the age of 5 on the first National Vaccination Day 2022 which will last until Sunday 25 September.
There are more than 17 vaccines that will protect against 27 diseases targeting children under the age of five, pregnant mothers, girls between the ages of 9 and 13, and adults over the age of 60, so that they complete their programs. vaccination.
The day aims to achieve 85% coverage across all vaccines nationwide and is being developed as part of the plan to fill vaccination gaps in the regular regimen.
The head of Minsa, Jorge López Peña, called on mothers and fathers to protect the health of the little ones by going massively every day and especially these dates to health facilities and be updated on their vaccines.
“We know that in these two years we have neglected the regular scheme, so I urge the population to come and bring their minor children to receive the corresponding vaccine, it is the only way to prevent our children from presenting polio or measles” , stressed the minister.
Peru, leader in vaccination
For her part, the director of Immunizations of the Minsa, María Elena Martínez, stressed that vaccine-preventable diseases in our country are controlled with vaccines, however, to eliminate and eradicate them, citizens must complete the national vaccination regime every year.
The target that we want to overcome from the launch until Sunday 25 in the Lima metro is 3,940 children under 5 vaccinated.
As recalled, Peru has been characterized by having one of the best vaccination schemes in the region, as a result of the high commitment of the government and the deployment of Minsa nationwide. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, gaps in regular regimen coverage have increased, which poses a risk of a resurgence of controlled and eliminated diseases.
To close the year, it seeks to vaccinate more than 1,595,643 children under 5 nationwide.
Extended hours
The regular schedule vaccination offers the 17 vaccines on demand, Monday through Thursday and with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays, as there is a stock of insured doses for the entire population.
The Ministry of Health has announced that the vaccines will be available on all vaccination days which will be activated in a decentralized manner on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of each end of the month starting from September.
