The Colombian Association of Medical Schools sent a letter to Carolina Corcho, Minister of Health, and Aurora Vergara, Minister of Education, to express their concern about the current situation of teachers in the area. According to the organization, 214 have submitted their resignations in recent weeks.

The Colombian Association of Medical Schools (Ascofame) said it is concerned about the increase in the resignations of professors from medical schools in different parts of the country.
They assure that, of the 55 faculties associated with Ascofame, 32 have reported resignations of their teachers, in recent weeks they have registered the resignation of at least 214 teachers and 130 in the changes in the linkage modality of educators.
Taking the above into account, the Colombian Association of Medical Schools sent a letter to Carolina Corcho, Minister of Health, and Aurora Vergara, Minister of Education, to express their concern about the current situation of teachers in the area.
In said letter, the organization reiterates that its mission is “ensure the quality of medical education in our country, to provide Colombian society with doctors of high technical-scientific and human quality”.
“We are concerned about the effect that the resignation of a significant number of teachers, particularly medical specialists, may have on the development of academic activities in medicine programs, due to the effect of the changes in the tax regimes introduced in the recent tax reform,” explain the letter.
On the other hand, in the letter they indicate that the changes in employment relationships call their attention, since they would be temporary measures while the crisis due to resignations is resolved. In the same way, they assure that, possibly, in the next few days, the numbers of resignations will increase significantly.
“The most worrying thing is that the faculties anticipate that resignations will increase in the coming weeks, to the extent that many teachers are finding out about the situation up to now,” mention the document.
