SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, 10 (PRESS EUROPE)
Elica As Non Coordinator, made up of more than 200 Galician groups, has convened this Sunday several rallies and demonstrations in 19 cities of Galicia as part of World Mountain Day under the slogan “Let’s defend the mountains. Elica As Non. We Have Alternative’.
These mobilisations, which in some cases will be completed with marches or ascents to the top of the mountains concerned, will take place in the municipalities of A Baa, A Fonsagrada, Cecebre, Foz, Meira, Monterroso, Coristanco, Mondoedo, Moeche, Lugo, Becerre, Vila de Cruces, Moaa, Pontevedra, Forcarei, Xinzo de Limia, Vimianzo, Cee and Xermade.
But, for the second time in a row, due to this ephemeral event, the coordinator summons Galician society to a “great decentralized mobilization” in the face of “the current invasin helix”.
The platform explained that this date was chosen for its “particularly symbolic character in the social struggle against the wave of colonial winds” which, it denounced, “the country is suffering”.
In this line, he rejected the energy transition model which, he assured, “is imposed by the governments of Xunta and the State” and which “does not respond to the principles of an ecological and fair transition, nor does it correct the structural defects of the current energy system.
ANOTHER MODEL
This is why he stated that there are other “truly fair and sustainable” energy models. “Those who understand energy as a fundamental right of society and peoples to have a dignified life, who put the social interest, the public good and the protection of nature before profit and speculation”, he insisted. .
For the coordinator, the energy model should have the protection of nature as fundamental principles; preserve fisheries areas and marine ecological corridors; look after and enhance the heritage; right to energy compatible with food sovereignty; commitment to energy savings and efficiency rather than increased generation; defend resource sovereignty against “energy plunder”; wind power planning for socio-environmental purposes and at the service of the country; public participation against “democratic and illegal cuts; and the precautionary principle for the protection of public health.
