In support of the charity marathon “Give Five!”, The theme of which this year is the reduction of domestic violence, more than twenty well-known musicians in Latvia and the world have created its official anthem “I know, you are”.
The names of the anthem were written by Inga Cipe, the music by Jānis Šipkēvics, but musicians of various music genres – Iveta Apkalna, Renārs Kaupers, Ksenija Sidorova, Linda Leen, Kristīne Balanas, Intars Busulis, Valters Pūce, Laima Jansone, Aija Andrejeva, Dons , Ralph Eiland, Mara Upmane-Holstein, Janis Aishpurs, Goran Gora, Evija Webere, Folk Daughters, Aminata, Agnese Rakovska, Patrisha, Carnival Youth, She.
“It’s hard to describe that thrilling feeling when our spiritual brothers and sisters manage to unite in a common voice to tell something really important. Beyond the musical stylistic and content boundaries, it turns out that absolutely everyone in Latvian society is closely connected. I hope this “The set of sounds will be like a roadmap on a sore that has been waiting for a ray of attention for a long time. I would also like to thank the author of the song Inga Cipe from the bottom of my heart,” says music author.
Charity marathon “Give five!” will take place from December 17 to 23, when a traditionally special glass studio in Dome Square will become the central venue of the charity marathon, from which live radio and television broadcasts will take place, inviting donations to help people who want to break out of violent relationships.
It is already possible to donate to the charity marathon “Give Five!” on the ziedot.lv website. The funds donated by the company in the amount of 100% will be made available to people who have suffered from violence through Ziedot.lv.
Statistical data show that every third woman in Latvia has admitted that she has experienced physical or sexual violence in the family. This is one of the highest rates in the European Union. The rating of the European Gender Equality Index in the field of violence in Latvia is 38.2, which is higher than the average in the European Union countries (27.5).
In Latvia, women are more often than average in the European Union suffering from the consequences of physical violence – 84% of women who have experienced physical and / or sexual violence after reaching the age of 15 have experienced health problems, repeated psychological violence from an existing or former partner, as cases of violence were also reported less frequently, according to the European Gender Equality Index.
Due to tensions during the Covid-19 emergency, the number of police calls to family conflicts increased by 35% in the spring: there were an average of 32 calls a day, compared to 21 last year.
“High five!” history of anthems
For the fifth year in a row, friends of the charity marathon donate the official “Give five!” an anthem that vividly reflects the theme of each year. Almost every year, the anthem of the charity marathon was also the most frequently chosen song in exchange for a donation.

In 2017, the song “Doors Open” was donated by Gatis Irbe and his project MESA.
In 2018, the song “Embraces How” was donated by Mara Upmane-Holstein, Goran Gora and the band “My Radiant You”.
In 2019, Raimonds Tiguls and Rasa Bugavičute-Pēce together presented the Riga Dome Boys’ Choir and conductor Mārtiņš Klišāns with “Silently Whispering God”.
About the charity marathon “Give five!”
Social media charity marathon “Give five!” have paid more attention to the topicality of violence in society – a complex and multi-layered topic, talking about emotional, physical, financial and other forms of violence between family members, as well as the consequences and scenarios for action to enable a new life. The funds donated during the marathon will be channeled to the Rapid Reaction or Crisis Fund, providing financial support to people, mainly women and children, who want to break out of the vicious circle of leaving a violent relationship but are unable to do so due to a lack of support.
Charity marathon “Give five!” will take place from 17 to 23 December. It is organized by Latvian Radio in cooperation with the Latvian Television and public media portal lsm.lv. For the first time, the content partner of the project is the Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism Re: Baltica, which has been researching the topic of violence in depth since last year. The project is supported by housing developer “Bonava” and advertising agency “NORD DDB Riga”.
“High five!” is a unique charity format – shortly before Christmas in the urban environment, Dome Square, there will be a special Glass Studio, where Latvian Radio 5 – Pieci.lv DJs will share stories of people ‘s experiences, expert opinions and play songs chosen by donors for six days. “High five!” for the seventh year in a row, raising awkward topics on the media agenda, advocating for a more humane environment and change in society.
Charity marathon “Give five!” is part of an international project “Serious Request”, in which radio DJs in different European countries broadcast a week from a special glass studio, focusing on a specific group selected by the charity marathon or a topic of public importance. Everyone is encouraged to donate funds in exchange for a favorite song on the radio. In Latvia, this tradition was brought to life by the creative team of Latvian Radio 5 – Pieci.lv. Pieci.lv is a multimedia platform for Latvian Radio youth content, one of the most influential brands among the youth audience.
